Businesses and the government gathered together to find proactive measures to create more jobs for youth. The KEF, on July 6th, hosted ¡ºMeeting with minister of Employment & Labor and personnel executives from enterprises to increase youth employment¡»at the press center in celebration of launching of Ministry of Employment & Labor. This meeting was participated by Minister Lim and vice presidents from 5 major business associations along with personnel executives from SAMSUNG, SK, LG, POSCO and Hyundai Heavy Industry etc.
Vice presidents from 5 major business associations stressed on the role of Ministry of Employment & Labor for more efficient employment work. They also recommended improving current employment system to support enterprises to hire more workers. Meanwhile, the KEF has announced the result of a survey on new recruitment for the second half of 2010. This survey was conducted on the top 50 companies ranked by the sales and the number of employees. 29,419 are to be employed in the second half of 2010, 9.4% higher than the previous year According to the KEF, the scale of new recruitment in total in the second half of 2010 will increase by 9.4% compared to the last year. 29,419 people in total will be employed, showing that the situation of the job market is to be better than the previous year. The scale of recruiting new workers increased by 12.0% to 26,860 people compared to the last year. Also, recruitment of regular workers among the new employees is increased by 11.9% to a total of 15,205 people. Hiring experienced workers is decreased by 12.1% to 2,559 people, suggesting that youth employment is expected to be better off with decent jobs. 29,666 people employed in the first half of 2010, 22.4% increase in comparison with the last year The total number of hiring in the major companies is 29,666 in the first half of 2010, revealing that the employment rate is increased by 22.4% compared to the previous year. Recruiting of new workers is increased by 19.0% to 26,147 workers, and recruiting experienced workers is notably increased by 55.5%, to a total of 3,519 employees. It is found the overall hiring in 2010 (including new workers and experienced workers) will be up to 59,085, which increased by 15.3% in comparison with the previous year. The number of new workers in total will be 53,007 which is the result from 15.3% increase comparing to the last year. 66.7% cited 'increased investment' as a reason for more recruitment As for the factors for higher number of recruitment compared to the previous year, 41.1% said increased investment in existing business, 25.0% said opening a new business. Adding them up, 66.7% companies answered increased investment as the reason. This reflects the will of the enterprises to hire more workers in the light of seeking a new growth engine. Other factors were 'filling vacancy'(20.8%) and 'higher operation rate'(12.5%). Most of the companies recruit in September Most of the firms recruit in September(61.6%) for the second half of the year, followed by December(16.7%), October(11.1%), July(5.6%) and August(5.6%). Most firms recruit in March in the first half of the year which suggests that recruitment period is adjusted to university graduation.
